This page charts the step-by-step progress of a commission for St Peter's Hospital near Chertsey, from the initial contact in December 2008 and building up to the installation in February 2011. The site was officially opened on 11th April 2011 by the Mayor of Runneymede, Councillor Margaret Roberts.
A 20 year ‘Masterplan’ for the development of the hospital sets out a vision for the whole health campus which will significantly improve the layout and facilities of the site. There are also plans to create an attractive parkland setting for the campus, and this sculpture and landscaping form part of this development.
A number of studies have shown how art works can improve the health and recovery of patients (such as the 2004 study carried out at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital).
The project was financed by the Chief Executive Trust Fund.
